Nagpur, India: Ma. Kr. Pardhi, the veteran journalist, writer, and music critic, passed away early on Saturday morning at the age of 104. His funeral was held in the afternoon at the Vaikunth crematorium.
Pardhi, who marked his 105th birthday on December 18, 2024, was a significant figure in both the fields of journalism and literature. Born on December 18, 1920, in Sawner, Nagpur, he mastered multiple languages, including Marathi, Hindi, Sanskrit, and English. Pardhi worked with various newspapers and served in the news service department of All India Radio in Delhi before retiring in 1978. After his retirement, he settled in Pune.
Throughout his journalism career, Pardhi formed friendships with people like theatre legend Keshav Rao Date, Daji Panshikar, playwright Vijay Tendulkar, and Dr Surendra Barlinge. While he served in Delhi, his interest in music was developed and soon he became a music critic. Over 27 years in the capital, Pardhi pursued a parallel career in theatre, performing on stage as an actor.
After relocating to Pune, he assisted in establishing the Maharashtra Government’s Information Center, alongside prominent figure B. Kr. Kelkar. Pardhi was frequently invited to judge Hindi and Marathi theatre performances and classical dance events. He also served as a music critic for the prestigious Savai Gandharv Music Festival for many years.
Post-retirement, Pardhi contributed to the Maharashtra State Literature and Culture Board as a voluntary editor. Known for his in-depth music reviews, he remained dedicated to his craft, incorporating daily music practice and yoga into his routine. Throughout his life, Pardhi was honoured with numerous awards in recognition of his remarkable contributions to journalism and music.
