Nagpur, India: Residents of Bahadura village, located near Umred Road, are facing serious safety risks as heavy trucks and buses continue to pass through narrow, residential lanes to avoid paying toll at the Dighori plaza. Despite the availability of the Outer Ring Road meant to carry such traffic, drivers are choosing shortcuts through populated areas like Bahadura and Shirdi Nagar.
These inner roads are not built for large vehicles. The streets are narrow, filled with homes, pedestrians, and schoolchildren, making the daily movement of heavy vehicles a constant threat. Locals say sharp turns and the absence of traffic signals increase the danger, especially near the Sanjuba CBSE High School which lies along this route.
“A single mistake could lead to a serious accident. Children walk these roads every day,” said a concerned parent from the area.
While the Outer Ring Road is complete and functional, it lacks proper monitoring. With no traffic police present to enforce route rules, many drivers continue to use the internal roads unchecked. Residents accuse drivers of putting money before safety by avoiding the toll and using roads that are not meant for them.
Locals are now demanding strong action from the authorities. They want the Nagpur Traffic Police to be deployed in the area, violators to be fined, and diversions strictly enforced. Until that happens, residents in Bahadura and Shirdi Nagar say they will continue to live in fear as heavy vehicles pass dangerously close to their homes and schools each day.
