Two Arrested for Smuggling 8-Tonne Beef in Nagpur

Yashodhara Nagar police have seized eight tonnes of beef valued at Rs eight lakh and arrested two individuals for smuggling the banned meat. The police intercepted an Eicher truck (MH-40/CT-2069) worth Rs 20 lakh, which was being used to transport the beef illegally. The arrested suspects are Shaikh Mehboob Shaikh Mushtaq (40) and Mohamad Imran Mohammad Irshad (29), both residents of Kolsa Tal, Juni Kamptee. Shaikh Mehboob was the truck driver, while Mohammad Imran served as the cleaner.

During interrogation, the suspects revealed that the consignment belonged to Mohammad Ahfaz alias Gudda Mohammad Ashfaq (34), a resident of Imlibag, Kamptee. Following this information, the police took Mohammad Ahfaz into custody as well.

Acting on a tip-off, Senior Officer Dynaneshwar Bhedodkar, Head Constable Mangesh Lanjewar, Head Constable Shyam Kadu, and others intercepted the truck near Automotive Square metro station on Wednesday. Upon searching the vehicle, they discovered a large quantity of beef being transported illegally.

The police have registered a case against the beef smugglers under relevant sections of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act.
