Two students in Nagpur were mistakenly given the same Aadhaar number, causing them many problems. After media reported the issue, the Mumbai regional office of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) stepped in to resolve it. Officials have promised to fix the mistake, and both students will soon get new Aadhaar numbers.

Parents Struggle for a Solution

Sonali Patil, the mother of one of the students, Devansh Patil, said she received a call from UIDAI after the news was published. Officials assured her they were working on a solution. However, even after a week, the issue remains unsolved.

"We have been trying to fix our child's Aadhaar card for years. I have visited update centres many times, but mistakes keep happening. Sometimes my child's photo is wrong, sometimes the birth date changes, and sometimes the address is incorrect," she said.

Aadhaar is a 12-digit identification number given to every Indian citizen. But in this case, Devansh Vinesh Patil from Vardhman Nagar and Vansh Narayan Chavan from Pardi were mistakenly assigned the same number. Because of this, they have faced difficulties, especially in their education. Their parents have been trying to fix the issue for five years without success.

UIDAI Steps In

After media published the news on February 13 under the headline ‘One Aadhaar No, Two Students’, UIDAI contacted Devansh’s mother and assured her they were working on it.

Now, the case has been sent to UIDAI’s technical support team in Bengaluru. Officials expect to issue separate Aadhaar numbers for both students soon.

To avoid similar problems in the future, the education department has introduced APAR ID, a system that stores student records, just like Aadhaar. Authorities believe this will help manage student identities better.
