The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has granted a three-month extension for the free updation of Aadhaar details. The new deadline has been extended from December 14, 2023, to March 14, 2024. This decision comes in response to the positive engagement of residents with the service.
The free Aadhaar updation service is exclusively available on the myAadhaar portal. During this extended period, individuals can update their Aadhaar details without incurring any charges through the online portal.
While the myAadhaar portal offers free updation, it's crucial to note that physical Aadhaar centres will continue to charge a fee of ₹50 for each update. This fee has been in effect previously and remains applicable.
The initiative encourages people to update their Aadhaar details, especially if there have been no updates in the last 10 years. This proactive approach aims to curb Aadhaar-related frauds by maintaining accurate and current information.
Steps for Aadhaar Updation on myAadhaar Portal
Step 1: Visit the myAadhaar portal: https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/
Step 2: Log in using your Aadhaar number or Enrolment ID and select 'Name/Gender/Date of Birth & Address Update.'
Step 3: Click on the 'Update Aadhaar Online' button.
Step 4: Choose the update you want to make (Address, Name, or Gender) and proceed.
Step 5: Upload scanned copies of updated proof, if applicable.
Step 6: No payment is required until March 14, 2024. After this date, a fee of ₹25 will be applicable for online updates.
Step 7: Save the 'Service Request Number (SRN)' for future reference.
The extension provides individuals with additional time to update their Aadhaar details for free, emphasizing the importance of accurate information for the prevention of fraud. The online portal simplifies the process, contributing to enhanced data accuracy in the Aadhaar system.
