Vicky Kaushal’s dedication to his role as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the upcoming film Chhaava is truly remarkable. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film portrays the intense life of the Maratha warrior. During the filming of a particularly brutal torture scene, Vicky was required to stay tied up for the entire night. While he did not protest, the strain from the scene resulted in a serious injury that left him unable to move his hands.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Utekar revealed the extent of the injury, saying, “Vicky’s hands were tied up all night, and when the ropes were removed, his hands couldn’t come down. They were blocked. We had to stop shooting for one and a half months to allow him to recover.” This break required the entire set to be dismantled and rebuilt before filming could resume.
Interestingly, Utekar also shared that the torture scene was filmed on the very day that Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was historically tortured, adding a layer of historical significance to the moment.
The film also stars Akshaye Khanna as the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. While the two actors had minimal interactions on set, Vicky explained, “We didn’t exchange any greetings or small talk. I was playing Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, and Akshaye was Aurangzeb. We went straight into the scene without any distractions.”
Chhaava is set to release in theatres on February 14.
