Nagpur, India- Three additional fatalities attributed to heatstroke have been reported, bringing the total to 12 so far.
The body of a 65-year-old senior citizen was discovered in front of Hariom Medical Stores in Gulshan Nagpur, under the jurisdiction of Kalamna Police Station, around 4 pm on Monday. A 55-year-old man was found dead in the Sonar Oli area of Kamptee on Monday. Neither person has been identified yet.
The third case emerged in Khapa, where a man identified as Rajesh Ramkrusha Kshirsagar, a 38-year-old resident of Shivaji Nagar, Khapa, died on Tuesday. Police suspect that heatstroke caused these deaths and have registered cases of accidental deaths.
The entire region is enduring scorching temperatures during 'Nautapa,' with Brahmapuri, Chandrapur, and Wardha recording the highest temperature at 45.2 degrees Celsius, while Buldhana registered the lowest at 40.0 degrees on Tuesday. On the fourth day of 'Nautapa' today, the hot and humid weather persisted in the city, which registered 44.8 degrees Celsius, slightly lower than yesterday's 45.6 degrees.
Citizens had to endure the heat all day as hot winds swept through the city. Most people, particularly women and children, preferred to stay indoors to beat the heat with air conditioners, coolers, or fans. Even the coolers were not working effectively due to the intense heat. Those employed avoided going out during the daytime from their offices, while those on the roads or in markets searched for shelter. Outlets selling buttermilk, sugarcane juice, lemon juice, and watermelon did brisk business.
