Woman Held for Stealing Gold Jewellery Worth ₹19.43 Lakh, Ganeshpeth Police Recover Major Share

Nagpur, India: Ganeshpeth Police arrested a woman in connection with the theft of gold jewellery worth ₹19.43 lakh from a gold merchant. Officers managed to recover ornaments worth ₹13.54 lakh from her possession.
Nanaji Devgirkar (55), a gold merchant from Hinganghat, had travelled to Nagpur to buy gold ornaments. After making his purchase, he boarded an e-rickshaw at Badkas Chowk in Mahal to reach Ganeshpeth bus stand. Two unknown women were also in the same vehicle and got down before reaching the bus stop.
Nanaji later boarded his bus to Hinganghat, only to discover that his bag containing the gold jewellery was missing. He promptly lodged a complaint at Ganeshpeth Police Station. A case was filed under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police launched an investigation using technical surveillance and patrolling. During their operation, they identified a suspicious woman and kept her under close watch. After being detained, she initially denied any involvement but eventually confessed to the theft. Jewellery worth ₹13.54 lakh was recovered from her.
The arrest was made by a team led by Senior PI Machhindra Pandit and PSI Malhari Doifode, with the help of staff members Sameer Sheikh, Pawan Malkhede, Vaibhav Yadav, Dalit Lokhande, Sumedh Nitnawre, Sagar Dhawan, Megha Charpte, and Aarti Rathod.
