Is female arthritis more common? Indeed, according to top consultant orthopedic surgeon Dr. Yatinder Kharbanda of Delhi's Indraprastha Apollo Hospital. He states, "Biological, hormonal, and lifestyle variables contribute to the higher prevalence of arthritis in women.

Because women's joints are naturally more flexible than men's, osteoarthritis is more likely to develop in them due to deterioration. Hormonal fluctuations are also important, especially the decrease in estrogen that occurs during menopause.

Estrogen protects joints, and as it declines, inflammation and joint pain may result. Women's varied physical activity and other behavioral patterns are important factors. Changes in weight during pregnancy can also strain the joints.

These lifestyle changes can significantly lessen pain and enhance the general quality of life-

1. It's important to maintain an active lifestyle. Low-impact activities like yoga, swimming, and walking can help keep joints supple and prevent stiffness.

2. It's imperative to maintain a healthy weight because being overweight puts additional strain on the joints, particularly the lower back, hips, and knees.

3. Easy adjustments to posture and body mechanics, such as the use of ergonomic seats and frequent breaks from prolonged sitting, can also help reduce discomfort.

4. Other ways to relieve pain include applying heat or cold to the affected areas, using supportive shoes, and employing assistive equipment like joint braces or canes.
