Nisha Dahiya was winning her Olympic quarterfinal match against North Korean Pak Sol Gum when she suffered a devastating injury to her shoulder and had to leave the mat in agony.

Nisha, the silver medallist from the Asian Championships, led 6-1 in the opening period after striking first. She was competing in the 68kg division.

After a masterful counter in the second period, she went up 8-1, but she also injured her finger. Up until that point, Nisha appeared to be well-positioned to make it through, but tragedy struck twice in her life.

She took a break for treatment with a minute remaining since she was in discomfort while holding her hand. Nisha taped her finger and returned to the mat, only to be shoved out of limits by 18-year-old Sol, who was now exerting intense pressure on the Indian, seeing an opening.

Sol attempted an underhook and pulled Nisha to the ground. This move caused Nisha to sustain serious injuries. She moaned in agony as she gripped her hand. The officials inquired if she wanted to go on. When Nisha reappeared, Sol seized her with an iron grip, knocked her to the mat, and rolled her over for six points.

It was discovered that Nisha was admitted to the hospital right away. She appeared to have fractured her finger and dislocated her shoulder, according to an Indian coach in Paris.
