In a surprising move, Zomato has decided to change the name of its parent company to Eternal Limited. The food delivery platform's CEO, Deepinder Goyal, announced that the company will now be called Eternal, but assured customers that the Zomato app will stay the same. The new name also reflects the company's four main businesses: Zomato, Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure.
The company’s website will change from zomato.com to eternal.com, and its stock ticker will also change from ZOMATO to ETERNAL. However, the Zomato app that people use for food delivery will still keep its original name.
The announcement of the name change surprised many people, and some took to social media to share their thoughts. "My mom likes Zomato. It's a bit difficult to say Eternal," said one user. Others joked about the name change, with some even saying they would start using Swiggy instead.
Some people compared the move to other big companies that changed their names, like Facebook becoming Meta and Twitter becoming X. “Zomato > Eternal. Only creates complications for us to keep saying,” one person commented.
Despite the reactions, many understood the change as a part of the company’s plan to expand. "Maybe they're moving beyond food delivery into groceries and other services," said another user.
While the corporate name has changed to Eternal, the food delivery app will remain Zomato, keeping things familiar for users.
