23-Year-Old Woman Ends Life After Boyfriend Says No to Marriage
A 23-year-old woman from the Hajaripahad area in Nagpur took her own life after her boyfriend refused to marry her. The police have filed a case against her boyfriend, Darshan Vijay Bhajbhuje (25), an engineer from Pune, for abetment to suicide.
Punam (name changed) has been in a relationship with Bhajbhuje since 2019. Her family moved to different cities for her father's job, and Punam continued her studies in Aurangabad. Her father had given his permission for the marriage when he learned about their relationship, but the matter was not discussed further.
On December 28, 2024, Punam told her parents she was going to Aurangabad for a job but instead went to Pune to meet Bhajbhuje. He refused to meet her, leaving her heartbroken. She returned home on December 31, 2024, looking upset but didn't share what was bothering her. On January 7, 2025, Punam took her life by hanging herself at home.
The family found a diary in which Punam described her emotional pain and the troubled relationship with Bhajbhuje. Investigations revealed the couple had frequent arguments, with Bhajbhuje using abusive language and refusing to marry her.
The police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation.
