Nagpur Boxers Shine at State Boxing Championship
The State Boxing Championship concluded at Nagpur University's Subhedar Hall, Ravi Nagar, on Wednesday, with several talented boxers from Nagpur emerging as champions in various weight categories.
The championship, organized by the Maharashtra Boxing Association in collaboration with the District Amateur Boxing Association of Nagpur and Kamptee Taluka Boxing Multi-Purpose Organisation, showcased impressive performances from the city's pugilists.
In the sub-junior boy's category (46-49 kgs), Malhar Sable of Nagpur district showcased his winning form and secured the gold medal by defeating Ahmednagar's Ishant Karne in a closely contested match with a score of 3-2. Another promising boxer, Anant Deshmukh, hailing from Nagpur district, triumphed in the 55-58 kgs weight category by defeating Karthik Khaniode of Akola with a score of 1-0.
In the girls' division (46-49 kgs), Savli Barbunje of Nagpur outshone her opponent Arya Pagar from Pune, claiming the gold medal with a score of 1-0. Navyanveli Swamy secured the gold medal in the 52-55 kgs weight category, displaying remarkable skills and defeating Satara's Sanskruti Yeveli with a score of 4-1. Additionally, Pooja Channe secured the bronze medal in the 49-52 kg weight category.
The championship also saw some outstanding performances resulting in bronze medals for Nagpur boxers. Samiksha Singh and Zubiya Khan secured bronze in the 55-58 kgs and 58-61 kgs weight categories, respectively. Meanwhile, Shraddha Nandanwar achieved the bronze medal in the 61-64 kgs weight category.
In the junior girls' category, Sanvi Mahajan faced a tough challenge but secured the silver medal, losing 5-0 to Revathi Umbarkar of Kridapith in the 57 to 60 kgs weight category. Khushi Shaikh, representing Nagpur district, also displayed commendable skills but had to settle for silver after losing to Mardavi Bhosle of Mumbai in the 54 to 57 kgs weight category.
In the overall championship standings, Pune district emerged victorious with 18 points, closely followed by Akola and Satara districts, both securing the second position with 17 points each. Jalgaon's Ayushi Bhosle received recognition as the most promising boxer, while Nagpur's Samiksha Singh was named the best challenger, and Dhrupata Saud of Raigarh received the title of best boxer.
In the overall team standings, Krida Peeth claimed the title with 35 points, followed by Satara in the second position with 33 points, and Pune in the third position with 26 points. Malhar Sable of Nagpur was honored as the best boxer, while Rajat Chaudhary of Pune and Atharva Bhatt of KP were awarded the titles of best challenger and most promising boxer, respectively.
The championship served as a platform to showcase the immense talent and dedication of young boxers from Nagpur and across Maharashtra, promising a bright future for the sport in the state.
