25-Year-Old Son Murders Parents After Dispute Over Academic Failures in Kapil Nagar

Nagpur, India: A tragic incident unfolded in Kapil Nagar where a 25-year-old engineering student, Utkarsh Dakhole, was arrested for killing his parents after a fight over his poor academic performance.

Utkarsh, a student at Yashwantrao Chavan College of Engineering since 2018, had been repeatedly failing his exams. His parents, Liladhar (55) and Aruna (50), wanted him to leave engineering and explore other career options, like ITI. On December 25, they told him they planned to withdraw him from college, leading to heated arguments.

On December 26, while his father was at work, Utkarsh had a fight with his mother at home. In anger, he strangled her in the bedroom. When his father returned later, Utkarsh stabbed him multiple times in the drawing room.

To hide the murders, Utkarsh told his younger sister that their parents had gone to Bengaluru for meditation. He took her to their uncle’s house in Godhni and even sent messages from his father’s phone to make it seem like they were away.

The truth came out on January 1 when neighbours complained about a bad smell from the house. Police found the bodies and arrested Utkarsh, who admitted to the killings during questioning.

Police say there is no evidence of drug use or suspicious activity linked to Utkarsh. The case has shocked the community, and further investigation is underway.
