310 Drunk Drivers Penalised as Police Tighten Road Safety Measures

Nagpur, India: Nagpur Police Commissioner has launched the Mission Jeevan Raksha Abhiyan to curb road accidents in the city. As part of this initiative, traffic police conducted blockades and deployed special teams across Nagpur on 13th and 14th March 2025. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Branch, directed all traffic divisions to take strict measures during this period.
A total of 40 checkpoints were set up across the city, with special patrol teams focusing on drunk drivers. Several offenders were caught and penalised under strict traffic laws. This crackdown resulted in 5,020 cases of traffic violations, with 310 of them related to drunk driving, highlighting the police’s focus on road safety.
Among different zones, Ajni recorded the highest number of drunk driving cases at 53, followed by Indora (42) and Cotton Market (33). MIDC had 32 cases, while Lakadganj and Kamptee each reported 29. Other areas such as Sitabuldi, Sonegaon, Sakkardhara, and Sadar recorded between 17 and 27 cases.
In terms of overall traffic violations, Sonegaon topped the list with 546 cases. Lakadganj and Kamptee each recorded 653 violations, making them the worst-affected zones. Ajni (603) and Sakkardhara (577) were also among the highest. The crackdown reflects the traffic police’s commitment to ensuring road safety and maintaining discipline on city roads.
Authorities have warned that such operations will continue regularly. Those caught driving under the influence will face a fine of ₹10,000, and strict action will be taken against reckless drivers violating traffic rules. The police have urged citizens to follow traffic regulations to ensure public safety.
