60-year-old man lost his life in a tiger attack
In yet another tragic incident of human-wildlife conflict, a 60-year-old man lost his life in a tiger attack while collecting flowers in the Savarla Forest Division (compartment 313) in Paoni taluka. According to information provided by Tarachand Savarbandhe, the deceased, he was accompanied by his wife and son on Thursday morning for the flower collection excursion.While they were gathering flowers along the road to Sheli from Savarla, a tiger suddenly attacked Tarachand, resulting in his untimely demise. The news of the attack quickly spread, drawing a crowd to the scene. Regional Forest Department officials, along with the police, conducted necessary procedures, including panch-nama, before transferring the body to the Rural Hospital in Paoni for post-mortem examination.This unfortunate incident has reignited concerns among the local populace regarding repeated instances of animal attacks in the area. Despite being adjacent to the Umred Karhadla Tiger Reserve, the Savarla area has witnessed frequent tiger encounters, leading to fatalities. Just last week, a similar incident claimed the life of a woman in Kanhalgaon.In response to growing apprehensions, the Forest Department has reiterated its advisory urging people to refrain from venturing into forested areas. Additionally, the department has announced financial assistance to the affected family, with an immediate payment of Rs 10 lakh and the remaining Rs 15 lakh to be deposited in a fixed account.District Conservator of Forests Rahul Gavai, Assistant Conservator of Forests Nilak, DYSP Manoj Sidam, and other forest officials were present at the site to oversee the proceedings and address concerns raised by the community. This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for effective preventive measures to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts in the region.
