₹8 Crore Project to Restore Kasturchand Park’s Heritage Structures
Nagpur, India: Nagpur’s historic Kasturchand Park is being restored with a budget of ₹8 crore. The project, led by the Public Works Department (PWD), includes repairing the iconic heritage Band Stand, building an amphitheatre, and improving the park’s facilities.
Work on the bandstand has started after getting approval from the Heritage Conservation Committee (HCC). The restoration is being done carefully to maintain its original design, as per Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) guidelines. District Collector Dr Vipin Itankar said, “Special artisans from Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh are working on this project. We are using traditional methods, avoiding cement, and making the structure waterproof to protect it from rain damage.”
The project also includes cleaning, repairing, and beautifying the fountain. An amphitheatre is being built near the 200-foot flagpole, and plans are underway to develop the area around the flagpole with features similar to Nagpur’s Zero Mile.
For years, Kasturchand Park suffered neglect, with construction material left on the ground and no proper maintenance. Parts of the Band Stand had collapsed, and antisocial activities added to the damage. Efforts are now being made to clean and repair the site to restore its historic charm.
The PWD plans to complete all work within nine months, ensuring that Kasturchand Park regains its beauty and serves as a space for the public to enjoy.
