8 Kg of Gold Seized at Checkpoint in Gondia During Vidarbha Elections
Vidarbha, Amgaon, Gondia: Amid the ongoing Assembly elections, the police department and the election commission have set up check posts along the district’s borders. On October 20, Flying and Static Surveillance Teams (SST) stationed at a border checkpoint on the Amgaon-Lanji route inspected a logistics vehicle, discovering around eight kg of gold valued at ₹3.91 crore. The authorities seized both the gold and the vehicle.
According to the information provided, a border check post has been established on the Madhya Pradesh Lanji-Amgaon route, with Flying and Static Surveillance Teams (SST) from the Amgaon Constituency deployed there in anticipation of the Assembly elections. The checkpoint is inspecting two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and other vehicles.
The personnel at this checkpoint halted the logistics vehicle with registration number CG-04/N-2876 for inspection. During the check, they discovered approximately 8 kg of gold valued at ₹3.91 crore, which took everyone by surprise.
The officials inquired about the gold from the driver and requested the bill. However, due to the driver’s suspicious behavior, the staff reported the situation to the sub-divisional officer, tehsildar, and the officer at the Amgaon police station.
Upon receiving the information, they promptly arrived at the checkpoint on Lanji Road. In their presence, a panchnama was conducted at the site, and the seized items were sealed.
All items seized under police protection were stored in the security room under the custody of the Gondia District Treasury Office. This action marks the first significant enforcement measure in the district following the announcement of the code of conduct for the Assembly elections.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of District Election Officer and Collector Prajit Nair, Superintendent of Police Gorakh Bhamre, and Deputy Collector (Election) Kiran Ambekar. A complaint has also been filed in the Election Surveillance Monitoring System (ESMS). The case is currently under investigation, and further actions are being pursued following the directives of the Election Commission of India.
