42-Year-Old Farmer Committed Suicide in Narkhed, Nagpur

Nagpur, India: A 42-year-old farmer, Santosh Vaijnath Bansode, reportedly took his own life amid ongoing conflicts over access to a farmland pathway. Before his death, he posted a WhatsApp status mentioning three individuals. He was found hanging from a neem tree in Narkhed, Mohol taluka, on November 16.

Vaijnath Babu Bansode, the victim’s father from Narkhed, filed a complaint. Based on his statement, the Mohol police registered a case against three individuals from Narkhed, Vikas Ramchandra Bansode, Jalindar Trimbak Bansode, and Chandrakant Trimbak Bansode.

The complaint states that Santosh had ongoing disputes with the accused over access to a pathway through farmland. The three accused allegedly harassed and threatened him, insisting he stop using the path. On the evening of November 17, they reportedly went to Santosh’s home, verbally abused him, and issued threats. They had also assaulted him in the past, causing him significant stress.

On the morning of November 18, Santosh left home for his routine farm work around 7 am. By 11 am, a villager informed his family that Santosh had shared a WhatsApp status mentioning “harassment from relatives” before taking the drastic step of hanging himself from a neem tree.
