A member of IOA EC questions Usha's election to the presidency
With president PT Usha and executive committee members accusing one another of holding positions in contravention of the IOA constitution and Sports Code, the unrest within the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has only become worse.
On September 10, Usha wrote letters to five members of the EC in response to a complaint that they were holding positions in IOA without authorization under the Sports Code.
Vice-president and EC member Rajlaxmi Singh Deo has now responded to the accusations by challenging Usha's election as IOA president. We now know that she is supported by other members of the European Commission.
Usha was one of the eight SOM chosen to participate in the IOA General Assembly as voting members by the Athletes Commission. In December 2022, she was appointed President of IOA.
With Usha and most of the 15-member executive council at odds, IOA is in dire straits. The CEO Raghu Ram Iyer's hiring in January is the topic of controversy. Following the Olympics in Paris, the struggle intensified and is now having a major negative influence on bodily functions.
"Instead of accusing the members of being ineligible for election as members of the IOA EC, you ought to have looked into the veracity of the complaint before sending out the letter to the targeted EC members." You have the malevolent goal to silence the members who have consistently called attention to and protested against your flagrant and ongoing violations of the IOA constitution," the writer stated.
