A Soldier is Never Off-Duty: Heroic Sacrifice of Sep Shwensinlo Semp
In a touching story of bravery and selflessness, Sep Shwensinlo Semp of The Assam Regiment showed incredible courage during a tragic event at Nsonji Lake, Tsimenyu, Nagaland. While on leave and enjoying a picnic with friends on June 30, 2024, Sep Shwensinlo displayed true heroism in the face of danger.
During the outing, a friend got into trouble in the water and was struggling to stay afloat. Without thinking twice, Sep Shwensinlo jumped into the lake and saved his friend. Unfortunately, his feet got stuck in weeds and mud on the lakebed, and he couldn't save himself.
This tragic incident shows how deeply Indian Army soldiers are committed to protecting others, even at great personal risk. Sep Shwensinlo's sacrifice reminds us of their endless bravery and readiness. His selfless act is a shining example of the courage that defines our armed forces and inspires us all.
After the tragedy, Assam Rifles worked with civil authorities, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), to recover Sep Shwensinlo's body from the lake on July 1, 2024.

We mourn the loss of a true hero whose actions showed the highest ideals of military service. Sep Shwensinlo Semp's legacy will always be honoured and remembered for his unwavering commitment to duty and his comrades.
