A woman kidnapped with a Rs. 30 lakh ransom demand
Two people pretending to be National Investigation Agency (NIA) agents attempted to kidnap someone in Nagpur, but police in Nagpur stopped them, an official said on Saturday. The plot was inspired by a web series.
The victim was on her way home on a two-wheeler when the accused Swapnil Dilip Maraskolhe (24) and Chetna (23) approached her, the Rana Pratap Nagar police station official said. They displayed a fictitious NIA notice and brandished a pistol.
"After tying her wrists and legs, they brought the woman to their rented home in the Mahajanwadi neighborhood of Hingna and imprisoned her. He claimed, "Her family received a call demanding a ransom of Rs 30 lakh, so they called the police." "She was able to contact her parents on Friday while being held captive. Police raided the location based on signals from her cell phone and saved her. Soon after, Chetna and Maraskolhe were taken into custody," he stated.
According to an investigation, Maraskolhe owed ₹ 3 lakh. He devised this scheme after viewing a web series and spoke with the victim in Bhojpuri using Google Translate, he continued.
According to the official, the two have been placed under arrest in police custody until March 27 and are accused of kidnapping, robbery, and other offenses under the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act.
