A Year of Inaction: NMC's Failure to Reopen Road Near Shankar Nagar Garden
The residents of Shankar Nagar and surrounding areas continue to face significant inconvenience as the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) fails to reopen a key road closed since last year. The road, which runs behind Saraswati Vidyalaya, was shut down following the collapse of a retaining wall during heavy rainfall. The incident, which occurred in the Last monsoon season, has left the road closed for over a year, despite the critical nature of this route for local traffic.
The affected area, situated near the Nag River, saw severe erosion that led to the collapse of the wall. This collapse not only compromised the structural integrity of the road but also posed a danger to nearby buildings and residents. In response, the NMC installed barricades to close off the road, citing safety concerns. However, despite these precautionary measures, there has been little progress in repairing the damage and reopening the road to the public.
The road closure has severely impacted daily life in the area. Saraswati Vidyalaya, a prominent educational institution in Shankar Nagar, has been directly affected, with students and staff facing increased travel times and traffic congestion.
As the monsoon season approaches once again, there is an increased urgency for the NMC to act. The heavy rains that triggered the initial collapse could recur, potentially worsening the existing damage or causing new issues.
The continued closure of the road behind Saraswati Vidyalaya due to the wall collapse highlights a significant lapse in the NMC's infrastructure management. The civic body's failure to address the issue promptly has caused widespread inconvenience and raised concerns about its effectiveness in handling such emergencies.
