AAI Blames MIL for Delays in Nagpur Airport Runway Recarpeting
Nagpur, India: The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has blamed Mihan India Limited (MIL) for delays in recarpeting the runway at Nagpur's Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport. AAI official Safeena Najar explained the situation in court.
The High Court had earlier asked why the Nagpur runway work was taking longer than similar projects, like the one at Calicut Airport. AAI said the delays were caused by poor conditions and interruptions.
Work on the 4,000-metre runway started on October 1, 2024, and was expected to finish by April 30, 2025. The work was to take place in an eight-hour daily window approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). However, AAI says MIL stopped the work on October 9, 2024, without giving a reason.
AAI sent a letter to MIL on October 10, 2024, about the problems caused by the suspension. The contractor also complained to MIL on October 12, 2024, about losses from halted work.
AAI said MIL has now agreed to install a hot mix plant to help speed up the work, as long as the runway access is available. The High Court will hear the case again on January 28, 2025.
