Accused Walks Free on Bail in Petrol Pouring Murder Attempt Case

Nagpur, India: The Additional Sessions Court has granted bail to Vaibhav Sureshsingh Thakur, who was arrested for allegedly attempting to set his neighbours on fire during a dispute. The case was registered at Kotwali Police Station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
According to the police, Vaibhav and the complainant had been in a dispute for the past eight years over a shared wall between their houses. On 21st February 2025, an argument broke out between them while the complainant and her husband were standing outside their home. During the altercation, Vaibhav allegedly brought a bottle of petrol, poured it on the couple, and threatened to kill them. However, neighbours intervened and stopped the situation from escalating.
Vaibhav’s lawyer argued that he was falsely accused and that the complainant’s husband often caused trouble under the influence of alcohol. The defence also highlighted that Vaibhav’s mother had filed a counter-complaint against the complainant and her husband on the same day, claiming that Vaibhav was deliberately framed. The defence requested bail and assured the court that Vaibhav would cooperate with the investigation.
The police and the complainant opposed the bail plea, arguing that Vaibhav’s actions were serious and that he might threaten witnesses or the complainant if released.
After hearing both sides, the court considered the following points before granting bail. The investigation was almost complete, with only the chemical analysis report pending. No physical harm was caused to the victims. A counter-complaint had been filed by Vaibhav’s mother. Most of the evidence had already been collected, making further custody unnecessary.
Based on these factors, the court granted bail to Vaibhav Thakur on a personal bond of ₹25,000 with a surety of the same amount. Advocate Ravindra R. Rajkarne represented the accused.
