Actor Ranya Rao Alleges Torture in DRI Custody: Slapped, Starved, and Forced to Sign Blank Papers

Kannada actor Ranya Rao, who was recently arrested in a gold smuggling case, has alleged that she was mistreated while in the custody of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). In a handwritten letter dated March 6, addressed to the Additional Director General of DRI in Bengaluru, she claimed that she was assaulted, deprived of food, and forced to sign blank documents.
Ranya stated that she was taken into custody while on a flight and was not given a chance to explain herself before being arrested. She alleged that DRI officials slapped her 10-15 times and forced her to sign multiple documents, including 50-60 typed pages and around 40 blank pages. She claimed that she was threatened with damage to her family’s reputation if she refused to comply.
The actress further stated that she was not allowed to sleep properly or given adequate food during her detention. She maintained that no search was conducted, nor was any illegal possession recovered from her. She also expressed concern that the real culprits were being protected while she was being framed.
In her letter, Ranya urged authorities not to consider any statements she made while in custody, as they were obtained under duress. As of now, the DRI has not responded to her allegations. The case remains under investigation, and further developments are awaited.
