Actress Kangana Ranaut Allegedly Slapped by CISF Officer
A significant controversy unfolded at Chandigarh airport on Thursday involving Bollywood actress and newly-elected BJP MP from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut. Ranaut was allegedly slapped by on-duty CISF officer Kulwinder Kaur, reportedly upset over Ranaut's comments on the farmers' protests from 2020-21. The CISF has since suspended Kaur and filed an FIR against her, alongside ordering a court of inquiry into the incident.
Kulwinder Kaur joined the CISF in 2009 and has been serving at Chandigarh airport since 2021. She has maintained a clean service record until this incident, with no prior punishments or inquiries against her. Kaur is 35 years old, a mother of two, and a native of Sultanpur Lodhi in Punjab. Her husband is also posted at the Chandigarh airport. Kaur's brother, Sher Singh, is a prominent farmer leader and serves as the organization secretary with the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee.
Talking about the incident Ranaut stated that she was approached and hit in the face by Kaur, who also verbally abused her. "She hit me in the face and started abusing me. I asked her why she did it, and she said she supports the farmer protests," Ranaut explained in a video post. Ranaut expressed concern over rising tensions in Punjab, saying, "I am safe but my concern is that terrorism is increasing in Punjab... How do we handle that?"
A video circulating online shows an agitated Kaur speaking to people around her after the incident. In the video, Kaur reportedly says, "She (Kangana) made a statement that farmers were protesting in Delhi because they were paid Rs 100 or Rs 200. My mother was one of the protesters there."
The incident has sparked a debate on social media and beyond, highlighting the ongoing tensions and sensitivities surrounding the farmers' protests and the diverse perspectives on the issue
