AICC Prepares for Lok Sabha Elections, Assigns Coordinators in State

In anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, political parties are actively organizing and assigning responsibilities to senior leaders. The All India Congress Committee (AICC) is no exception, having recently appointed coordinators for the Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra, including Vidarbha. The party has undertaken a strategic reshuffling of leaders, exemplified by Chandrakant Handore, previously from Mumbai, now coordinating the Amravati constituency reserved for Scheduled Caste.

Vasant Purke, a former Education Minister from Yavatmal, assumes the role of coordinator for the Akola Lok Sabha constituency. Ranjeet Kamble, an ex-minister from Wardha, is tasked with coordinating Buldhana, while North Nagpur MLA Dr. Nitin Raut takes charge of Wardha. Virendra Jagtap from Chandur Railway, Amravati, now serves as the coordinator for Nagpur.

Dr. Sunil Deshmukh of Amravati has been entrusted with the responsibility of coordinating the Ramtek Lok Sabha constituency, reserved for the Scheduled Caste. Satish Chaturvedi, a former minister, oversees Chandrapur, and Subhash Dhote handles coordination for Yavatmal-Washim. Nana Gawande and Adv Abhijeet Wanjari, MLC, have been appointed coordinators for Bhandara-Gondia and Gadchiroli-Chimur (ST) respectively. Additionally, Adv Charulata Tokas, Yashomati Thakur, Vijay Wadettiwar (Leader of Opposition), and Dr. Wajahat Mirza are tasked with coordinating Raigad, Jalgaon, Nanded, and Jalna in Vidarbha.

Ramesh Chennithala, the newly appointed in-charge for Maharashtra, has scheduled a meeting of all district Congress committees on January 20 in Nagpur. This marks the third significant meeting held by the Congress in Nagpur within three months, underscoring the city's growing importance in the Vidarbha region. The party's strategic focus on Vidarbha aims to capitalize on the perceived lack of attention from other major parties, particularly in comparison to Mumbai and Western Maharashtra. With the headquarters of RSS located in Nagpur, the Congress seeks to demonstrate strength in what is considered the stronghold of its political rivals. The venue for the Nagpur meeting is yet to be finalized.
