AIIMS Doctor Loses ₹13.75 Lakh in Cyber Fraud
Nagpur : A woman doctor from AIIMS was cheated out of ₹13.75 lakh in a cyber scam. The incident took place in the Beltarodi area.
The doctor, who lives on the outskirts of Nagpur, went to the SBI branch in Chinchbhavan on December 26, 2024, to convert ₹28 lakh into a fixed deposit. She was told to check the status of her transaction using the YONO app. But when she tried to use the app at home, it didn't work.
She then searched for the SBI customer care number online and found a fake number. She called the number 9062659503, where a man named Rakesh Patel claimed to be from the SBI Mihan branch. He sent her a file on WhatsApp, saying it was needed to check her transaction.
When she clicked the file, her phone was hacked, and the scammer took control of it. The fraudster transferred ₹10.90 lakh from her account and took a loan of ₹2.84 lakh against her fixed deposit.
Realizing her account was emptied, she reported the incident to the bank and her husband. A total of ₹13.75 lakh was stolen. The Beltarodi police have filed a complaint and are investigating the case.
