The Air Quality Crisis in Nagpur, Maharashtra Second Capital

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has released its latest data for the month of January, revealing that all 31 days of the month were polluted, with only two days showing satisfactory clean air. This alarming situation during the winter months, typically considered healthy, is putting the public's health at risk.

According to local doctors, there has been a significant increase in respiratory, skin, eye, allergy, and other diseases in hospitals in Nagpur. The city's once-renowned status as a "Green City" is quickly fading, with increasing pollution index levels and a decrease in clean air days during the winter months. In November, 28 out of 30 days were polluted, while 30 out of 31 days in December showed poor air quality. Sadly, January 2023 was no better, with all 31 days recording bad air.

It is imperative that immediate action is taken to address this crisis and protect the health and well-being of Nagpur's citizens. The government and local authorities must take proactive steps to improve air quality and maintain the city's reputation as a "Green City." Otherwise, the once-beautiful city of Nagpur will become a hazard to its residents' health and well-being.
