Ajit Pawar Sanctions Rs 35.44 Crore for Flyover and Railway Overbridge to Improve Connectivity

Nagpur, India: Deputy Chief Minister and State Finance Minister Ajit Pawar approved a budget of Rs 21.14 crore for building a third flyover that will connect two existing flyovers on the Inner Ring Road. Additionally, he allocated Rs 14.30 crore for constructing a railway overbridge (RoB) that will connect Radisson Blu Hotel to Manish Nagar.

The announcement was made during the first budget of the Mahayuti government, representing a significant boost to the city's infrastructure, especially in the southwest and south areas of Nagpur.

The state Public Works Department (PWD) has already been granted administrative approval for the third flyover, with a project cost of Rs 185 crore. This new flyover will connect the two proposed flyovers at Manewada and Mhalgi Nagar Squares, creating a continuous elevated corridor stretching 2.80 km.

Originally, these two flyovers were sanctioned at Rs 73.14 crore each. However, following Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s suggestion, the PWD revised its plans to integrate all three into a single, seamless structure to ease traffic congestion on the busy Inner Ring Road.

PWD sources confirmed that the design of the Manewada and Mhalgi Nagar flyovers was modified, with the landing at Manewada Square and the ascending ramp at Mhalgi Nagar Square being removed to accommodate the third flyover. Work on the Mhalgi Nagar flyover has already commenced, while the tendering process for the third flyover is expected to begin soon.

The proposed railway overbridge (RoB) from Radisson Blu to Manish Nagar, estimated to cost Rs 124 crore, is designed to improve connectivity between Wardha Road and the rapidly developing areas beyond the Howrah railway line.

Due to the limited number of routes available, residents and motorists currently depend on the crowded Manish Nagar underpass or the narrow roads in Narendra Nagar to get to their destinations.

The PWD is evaluating multiple design proposals, including a double-decker bridge and parallel alignment with the Narendra Nagar flyover, to ensure an optimal solution despite space constraints.

Once both projects are completed, they are expected to significantly improve traffic flow, reduce travel time, and enhance road safety in key areas of Nagpur.
