Alcohol and Cigarette Use in Pune University Girls’ Hostel Sparks Concern
Pune, often called the 'Oxford of the East,' is famous for its high standard of education. However, a troubling incident has surfaced at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). Reports suggest that alcohol and cigarettes are being consumed openly in the university’s girls' hostel.
A female student captured photos and videos as evidence and reported the matter to the hostel warden. Despite repeated complaints, no action was taken. She then wrote to the registrar and vice-chancellor, providing details of the incidents. However, even after this formal complaint, no steps were taken against the students involved.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has warned that if the university does not take strict action and ensure a smoke-and-alcohol-free campus, they will launch a strong protest.
