Ambazari Bridge to Open by March 31, Cable Removal by Feb 28

Nagpur, India: The Ambazari Bridge will be fully open for traffic by March 31, while the removal of an electricity cable near the bridge will be completed by February 28. This was confirmed in an affidavit submitted by the Divisional Commissioner to the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court.

Additional Divisional Commissioner Dr. Madhavi Khode Chaware informed the court that the Maharashtra government has approved ₹3.77 crore for shifting the cable. The 11-kilowatt electricity wire, which had delayed construction on one side of the bridge, will be removed by the end of February. Once this is done, both sides of the bridge will be open for public use by April 1.

Meanwhile, the District Collector has sent a proposal requesting ₹856 crore for the development of the Ambazari Dam and nearby areas. The plan includes deepening the Naag, Pili, and Pohra rivers and building the Ambazari spillway. The proposal is now with the Chief Secretary, and the High Court has asked for an update on it by March 12.

The case was heard by Justice Nitin Sambre and Justice Vrushali Joshi. The bridge construction had been delayed due to the electricity cable, but officials assured the court that the work is now on track.

This case is part of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by local citizens after the Ambazari Dam overflowed due to heavy rains in September 2023.
