Ambhora village eagerly awaits opening of longest cable-stayed bridge in India
The 700-meter-long cable-stayed bridge in Ambhora village, Nagpur, has been completed since December 2022. However, its opening has been delayed for five months due to the absence of Public Works Department (PWD) officials from Austria for the final balancing exercise. The opening of India's longest cable-stayed bridge, located in Ambhora village, Nagpur, has been delayed due to the absence of PWD officials from Austria for the final balancing exercise. The construction of the bridge was completed in December 2022, but it cannot be opened for traffic until the exercise is completed under the supervision of PWD officials. This delay has caused protests among villagers in the Bhandara district.
The bridge, constructed by T&T Infra Ltd, features footpaths on both sides and two lanes of 7.5 meters wide each, capable of accommodating four four-wheelers at a time. Five pylons have been constructed in the Wainganga River to support the bridge, with the central pylon being 40 meters tall. A viewing gallery has been built at the top of the central pylon for tourists. The bridge will boost tourism in Ambhora village and improve connectivity to the Bhandara district for the locals.
The delay in the opening of the bridge has caused frustration among the villagers of the Bhandara district, who have held protests demanding its immediate inauguration. The construction of the Gosikhurd dam had led to a decline in tourism in the area, and the bridge's opening was expected to revive the sector.
After a delay of five months, PWD officials have received approval for their visit to Austria, and the final balancing exercise is set to be conducted soon. The bridge's inauguration has been fixed for May 31, and it is expected to bring about a new dawn of development for the region, boost tourism, and provide job opportunities for the locals.
