Amit Rohidas is out of the semifinals
After receiving a red card during Saturday's quarterfinal encounter against Great Britain, India's defender Amit Rohidas has been suspended for one match by the International Hockey Federation (FIH). Nearly forty minutes after the final whistle, Rohidas was thrown off the field after hitting a rival player with his stick.
According to an official announcement from FIH, "Amit was suspended for one match for a breach of the FIH Code of Conduct which occurred during match no. M32 India vs Great Britain on August 4, 2024."
After Amit was given a red card, Hockey India formally voiced concerns about the quality of umpiring. "The complaint focuses on a critical match between India and Great Britain, where several inconsistencies in officiating potentially influenced the game's outcome," stated Hockey India in a statement.
The statement also expressed dissatisfaction with "inconsistent" video umpire evaluations, the coaching of Great Britain's goalie from behind the goalpost, and the goalie's continued usage of a video tablet.
The hockey squad suffers a significant blow with Amit's ban; he was a vital member of the team and had started all of India's games at the Olympics.
