Amravati Reports 955 Snakebites in Five Months, Nine Dead

Amravati, India: There is an increase in snakebite incidents in Amravati district during rainy days. In the last five months, 955 people have been bitten by snakes.

The district health administration has reported that 9 people died during the treatment. An average of seven people are bitten by snakes in the district every day.

The majority of cases of snakebite were in rural areas and the highest number of cases were admitted to the District General Hospital for treatment.

A person who has been bitten by a snake needs immediate treatment and primary health centres, as well as subcentres, are provided with all the medicines required for the treatment.

Despite treatment facilities in most healthcentres, the doctors refer the concerned patients to rural hospitals or district general hospitals without treatment.

Patients' conditions got worse due to delayed treatment, causing some to lose their lives. Between April and August, 955 people were bitten by snakes, and nine people died. Eight of them died while getting treated at Irvine Hospital.
