Arvind Kejriwal Granted Interim Bail: Supporters Gather Outside Tihar
Following a plea for interim bail, Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi's Chief Minister, has been granted temporary relief by the Supreme Court until June 1 in the money laundering case filed against him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is linked to the Delhi excise policy case. Kejriwal's request to extend his bail until the vote counting day was turned down by the Supreme Court, which instructed him to surrender on June 2.
Arvind Kejriwal was detained by the ED on March 21 in connection with a money laundering investigation concerning alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy for the year 2021-22, which has since been annulled.
Earlier this week, there were indications from the bench about granting interim bail to Kejriwal to allow him to campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. However, it was made clear that if interim bail were granted, Kejriwal would not be permitted to carry out any official duties as Chief Minister during this period. As news of the bail broke, supporters and workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) gathered outside Tihar Jail in anticipation of Kejriwal's imminent release.
