Australia Wins Border-Gavaskar Trophy with Six-Wicket Victory in Sydney

Australia defeated India by six wickets on day three of the fifth Test in Sydney, securing a 3-1 series victory and reclaiming the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Scott Boland was the standout performer, taking 6-45 as India collapsed in their second innings. Adding just 16 runs to their overnight total, India was bowled out for 157, setting Australia a target of 162.

Despite captain Jasprit Bumrah being sidelined with an injury, India struck early, reducing Australia to 58-3. Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj each claimed key wickets, including the dismissals of opener Sam Konstas (22) and Steve Smith (4). Smith fell one run short of 10,000 Test runs.

Travis Head (34) and debutant Beau Webster (39) steadied the innings, building an unbeaten partnership to guide Australia to victory in just 27 overs. Webster hit the winning runs off Washington Sundar, capping a dream debut.

The win not only gave Australia the series but also guaranteed their place in the World Test Championship final at Lord’s in June, where they will face South Africa.

The match marked the end of an era for India as Virat Kohli led the team on the field for his final Test in Australia. Despite India’s fightback, Australia proved too strong, sealing a memorable series win at home.
