Authorities Seize Gold Worth ₹61 Lakh in Nagpur Railway Station

Nagpur, India: Gold valued at ₹61 lakh was seized during a joint operation by central agencies at Nagpur Railway Station. Authorities detained an individual who was carrying 787.86 grams of gold on the Sanghamitra Express (Train No. 12296).

The operation was initiated based on a specific tip-off received by Senior Officer V.L. Narasimha from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). Consequently, the DRI collaborated with the Central Intelligence Bureau (CIB) of the Railway Protection Force and Central Railway to carry out the operation.

A joint team was assembled to monitor the train’s movement. They boarded the train and inspected a specific individual who was found with the smuggled gold biscuits, valued at ₹61,45,308.

CIB personnel, along with Assistant Sub-Inspectors Rajkumar Bharti and Mukesh Rathore, as well as team members Ajay Singh, Jasveer Singh, Harvinder Singh, and Shyam Jhadaukar, readied themselves to carry out a thorough investigation.

Three joint teams were established, headed by DRI Nagpur’s Deputy Director Gaurav Meshram and Senior Officer V.L. Narasimha.

When the Sanghamitra Express arrived at Platform No. 2, the team initiated a search operation on the train. In Coach No. A-1, Seat No. 35, they found a passenger who matched the provided photo and identified him as being from Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.

During the investigation, 787.86 grams of gold biscuits hidden in his bag were confiscated. The Railway Protection Force (RPF), Central Intelligence Bureau (CIB) Nagpur, and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Nagpur successfully completed “Operation Satark” in the national interest, taking significant steps to combat gold smuggling.
