Big Fines for Bad Roads: NMC Takes Action at Abhyankar Nagar
Nagpur, India - The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is cracking down on contractors who've left roads in disrepair. Three companies - Abhi Engineering Private Limited, Goodwill Constructions, and SM Constructions - are facing heavy fines for not fixing up roads they dug up during water pipeline work. These penalties come after a recent accident on Abhyankar Nagar Road due to poor road conditions.
The NMC chief, Abhijeet Chaudhari, isn't taking this lightly. He's given the contractors a tight deadline of 48 hours to sort out the mess from LAD Square to the VNIT rear gate. Chaudhari wants all roads fixed before the rainy season hits.
Chaudhari's not just about punishment; he's also making sure things improve for the future. He's ordered the Water Works and Public Works Department to check and fix trenches right after they're dug. This move aims to prevent accidents and hold contractors accountable.
In a recent meeting, Chaudhari and his team reviewed the progress of water pipeline installations. They've got a big project going on to improve water supply in several areas. To keep things on track, Chaudhari's formed a committee to oversee the work and make sure trenches get fixed fast.
The NMC is serious about this. Contractors who don't follow the rules could face fines of Rs 1 lakh or more per day. They might even get blacklisted or face legal action. The Water Works Department has laid down 20 km of pipeline so far, but there's more to be done.
Chaudhari's also thinking ahead. He wants to avoid digging up major roads during the rainy season and find ways to minimize disruptions. With these measures, Nagpur hopes to have safer, smoother roads soon.
