Bird Flu in Nagpur: One Tests Positive, But Virus Found to Be Milder

Nagpur, India: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has taken strict measures after a case of bird flu (H5N1 virus) was found in Bada Tajbagh, under the Sakkardara Police area.
Officials collected 40 samples to check if the virus had spread to humans. Only one person tested positive, but for a weaker version of the virus, which is less dangerous.
The affected house, where several birds had died, was sealed immediately. Health teams tested 10 family members, but all results came back negative. As a safety step, they were given antiviral medicines like Tamiflu.
To stop the spread, the NMC set up a one-kilometre containment zone around the house. All poultry birds in this area were culled.
A larger nine-kilometre area was also marked for monitoring. In total, around 1,500 birds were culled, and poultry feed and eggs were destroyed.
Officials are keeping a close watch to ensure the virus does not spread further.
