Bribe to Avoid Legal Action: Nagpur ACB Traps ASI, Recovers ₹30,000

Nagpur, India: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Nagpur caught an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) from MIDC Police Station accepting a ₹30,000 bribe on Thursday, 27 March 2025. The officer demanded the bribe to avoid taking legal action against a man involved in a fraud case.
The complainant, a 31-year-old resident of Nagpur, was under investigation by ASI Ravindra Manohar Sakhare (54) for a fraud case. Sakhare allegedly asked for ₹30,000 to ensure that no legal action or criminal charges would be taken against the complainant.
After verifying the complaint on 26-27 March, the ACB set a trap on 27 March 2025. During the operation, Sakhare was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe. The entire ₹30,000 was recovered from him.
Sakhare has been taken into custody, and the process of registering a case at MIDC Police Station is underway. Senior ACB officials, including Dr Digambar Pradhan (Superintendent of Police), Sanjay Purandare (Additional SP), and Roshan Yadav (Deputy SP), supervised the operation.
The sting operation was led by Police Inspector Ashish Chaudhary, with assistance from Inspector Varsha Mate and other officers.
