Bus Driver Arrested for Alleged Rape of Class XI Student in Nagpur

Nagpur, India: In a distressing incident that has raised concerns about student safety, a bus driver has been arrested for allegedly raping a class XI student from a government hostel in Umarkhed. The accused, identified as Sandeep Vitthal Kadam, 40, is a resident of Mahatma Phule Ward in Umarkhed and works at the Nagpur bus depot.

According to police reports, the troubling events began when Kadam met the victim at the hostel a few days prior. Following their meeting, he frequently visited the hostel to see the student. On March 22, the victim requested leave from the hostel clerk around 4 PM, stating she wanted to return to her hometown. After signing the register, she arrived at the Umarkhed bus stand by approximately 4:30 PM.

Kadam then transported the student on a bus that took them to Nanded and subsequently to Nagpur. Reports indicate that on Sunday, he took her to a local hotel, where he is alleged to have raped her. After the incident, he returned the victim to Umarkhed via a Nagpur-Solapur bus route.

Umarkhed police have acted swiftly and apprehended Kadam following the victim's report. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case to ensure justice for the victim and to address the broader issue of safety for students in the region.

This incident has sparked outrage within the community, highlighting the need for heightened vigilance and protective measures for students, particularly those residing in hostel facilities.
