Butibori Flyover Closure Causes Traffic Chaos on Nagpur-Hyderabad Highway
Nagpur, India: The closure of the Butibori flyover on the Nagpur-Hyderabad National Highway has caused major traffic problems. Part of the flyover was damaged, and debris fell off. This has forced all traffic to use the service roads, leading to daily jams and frustration.
With the flyover closed, vehicles now use narrow service roads that cannot handle the heavy traffic. At Butibori Square, buses stopping to pick up and drop off passengers create long queues, causing delays for everyone. Pedestrians and two-wheeler riders are also facing safety risks due to the congestion.
Locals from nearby areas like Dongargaon are struggling to find transport. “It’s very hard to board vehicles now because of the traffic jams,” said Shalikram Deogade, a factory worker.
Wrong-side driving has also become common, adding to the chaos, as no proper U-turns are nearby.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has asked experts from the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) for help. Dr. R.K. Ingle, a structural engineering expert, said their priority is to reopen the flyover safely. Repairs will take longer, but they are working on a plan to allow light traffic soon.
Police and traffic officials are working hard to manage the situation, but congestion remains a big issue. Residents are hoping the flyover will reopen soon to make travel easier and safer again.
