Butibori Flyover will be repaired in 45 days, Causing Daily 2-km Traffic jam on Wardha Road

Nagpur, India: The Butibori flyover, which collapsed on December 24, fell apart because it was carrying too much weight, according to a delayed report. The bridge has been closed for two months due to structural issues, traffic restrictions, and an investigation by the NHAI expert team.
Repair work is scheduled to start in 10 days and is expected to finish in 45 days, which will allow traffic to resume. In the meantime, a daily two-kilometer traffic jam from Butibori Square to Dongargaon continues to frustrate commuters.
Previously, vehicles traveled directly from MIDC to Wardha Road, but now they are being rerouted through the Butibori intersection, which has worsened the traffic jams. No organization appears to be addressing the problem, leaving drivers stuck. Despite the ongoing inconvenience, toll collection continues without offering any relief.
The flyover was built under the supervision of the former NHAI Project Director, Nitin Yeotkar. Local residents believe that after the poor construction, the quality should be improved and the bridge should be re-tested for safety.
A 187-ton truck was reportedly the cause of the Butibori flyover collapse. After the incident, the truck was stopped at a toll post. In January, NHAI officials stated that an FIR would be filed against the truck operator, but it is unclear whether one was actually filed. The expert team’s report has also not been made public.
Meanwhile, on January 18, a bike rider lost his life after being hit by a truck at the Butibori intersection while the flyover remained closed.
According to a local daily, NHAI Regional Officer RP Singh stated, "The expert report on the bridge collapse is complete. The improvement plan has been finalized, and work will start in 10 days, with an expected completion in 45 days."
