Cemetery Caretaker Murdered in Jaripatka: Accused Arrested After Brutal Attack

Nagpur, India: In a tragic incident on Sunday, Ramesh Shinde, the caretaker of the Protestant Christian Cemetery in Jaripatka, was attacked and killed by a mentally disturbed man. The incident happened while a burial was taking place nearby.

The attacker, Enon Madhusil Piyorji, slashed Shinde’s neck with a knife. Brave bystanders, including a woman, pinned down the attacker and handed him over to the police. Shinde was rushed to a hospital but did not survive.

This is the third murder in the city in three days, leaving the community in shock. Shinde, 55, was known for his good deeds, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he donated coffins to needy families.

The accused, Piyorji, 39, often visited the graveyard to pray at his father’s grave. He knew Shinde and called him “uncle.” On the day of the attack, Piyorji came to the cemetery wearing a helmet.

Family members said Piyorji had been seen sharpening a knife earlier, but no one realized his intentions. After the attack, Shinde was taken to the hospital in an autorickshaw, but doctors couldn’t save him.

Shinde, though not a Christian, was loved by the community for his kindness. He had supported the family of his late friend, Arun Paul, as his own. His loss has deeply affected the community.

The police have arrested Piyorji and are investigating the motive behind the attack. The victim’s family also reported that ₹50,000 in cash was missing from Shinde’s pocket, adding another layer of mystery to the case.

This shocking incident has left the Jaripatka community mourning the loss of a man known for his generosity and good heart.
