Central Jail Scheme: Inmates Mastermind Butibori Jewellery Heist
The recent robbery targeting Butibori jeweller Atul Sherekar, where gold ornaments worth Rs 48 lakh were stolen after assailants threw chilli powder in his eyes, was orchestrated inside the Central Jail. Nagpur Rural Police's Local Crime Branch (LCB) cracked the case and apprehended Krishna alias John Tiwdu Pancheshwar (27) and Ashok Kondu Choudhary (24) in connection with the crime.
The prime accused, John, previously incarcerated for theft, devised the plan while in jail, having received a tip-off about Sherekar's routine. Upon release, John enlisted Ashok's help, and the duo executed the heist on December 2. Using a stolen motorcycle, they intercepted Sherekar's car, assaulted him, and fled with Rs 90,000 in cash and gold-silver jewellery.
Following a meticulous investigation, police traced John to a rented accommodation in Rahul Nagar, Somalwada, leading to the arrest of the culprits. The arrest was executed under the guidance of SP Harssh Poddar, Addl SP Dr Sandip Pakhale, and the dedicated efforts of LCB officers, including PI Omprakash Kokate, API Rajiv Karmalwar, and PSIs Ashish Morkhede, Battulal Pande, along with other staff.
