Central Jail to Be Relocated Near Babulkheda, Says Bawankule

Nagpur, India: Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has announced the relocation of the Central Jail in Nagpur to a new site between Babulkheda and Chicholi. A 150-acre plot has been chosen, and ₹1,000 crore has been allocated for the project. To make court proceedings easier, an online system may be introduced, reducing the need to transport inmates to court.

Bawankule also shared plans for 29 new development projects for Nagpur, promising they would be completed on time. Progress will be reviewed every 15 days, with help from agencies like Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), and others.

A new building called ‘PWD Bhawan’ will be constructed to house all Public Works Department offices. The current Collectorate will be redeveloped, and two additional Collectors will be appointed to share the workload. Other plans include upgrading the MLA Hostel, building new quarters for IAS/IPS officers, and replacing Nag Bhavan with a modern tower.

For journalists, Bawankule promised housing solutions in Nagpur and Amravati. A redevelopment plan for Nagpur’s Press Club is also being prepared.

Bawankule assured that long-pending issues like the redevelopment of Deekshabhoomi and Ramtek would be resolved soon.

To strengthen public connections, BJP ministers will hold public meetings every 15 days to address citizens' problems. Bawankule also clarified that new political entrants to the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance would be carefully vetted to ensure the coalition remains strong.
