Central Railway's Plan to Develop Auto Hub at Ajni Goods Shed, Nagpur
Nagpur, India: Central Railway's Nagpur Division is set to boost its revenue by converting the Ajni Goods Shed into a dedicated Auto Hub. This ₹30 crore project aims to cater specifically to the automobile sector, with upgraded facilities and improved amenities to streamline vehicle transportation. Major automobile companies like Maruti Suzuki, Kia, and Hyundai have already shown interest in using the hub for dispatching vehicles.
To support the demand, the project includes two 700-meter rail lines equipped with permanent ramps for efficient vehicle unloading. Additionally, mobile 10-tonne ramps will be introduced to handle heavy vehicles. A wave-shaped car parking shed covering 5,000 square meters will be built to store vehicles before they are dispatched to dealers.
Security and convenience are key priorities in the project. High mast lighting and fencing will enhance security, while paved platforms, improved drainage, and signage will ensure smooth operations. Facilities such as canteens, washrooms, water coolers, and seating areas will be provided for workers, creating a comfortable environment.
The Auto Hub will also include a display area for automobile companies to showcase new vehicle models, generating additional revenue. With the growing demand for electric vehicles, car charging facilities will be installed. Furthermore, two warehouses at the Ajni site will be upgraded to accommodate the hub’s operations.
Ajni Goods Shed, which previously hosted operations for the Container Corporation of India and Mahindra & Mahindra, offers ample space and ready infrastructure. This project is expected to streamline vehicle transportation, reduce logistical challenges, and promote the automobile sector in Nagpur, contributing significantly to the railway division’s revenue.
