Climb to Ramtek Temple Set to Get Easier with ₹151.5 Cr Ropeway Project

Nagpur, India: In a major boost for religious tourism and convenience of devotees, the government has approved ₹151.50 crore for the development, operation, and maintenance of a 635-metre-long ropeway at the historic Ramtek Gad Temple in Nagpur district.

The project aims to ease the journey for lakhs of pilgrims who visit the temple every year. Currently, devotees must climb either 120 steps from the car parking area or as many as 700 steps from the base to reach the hilltop shrine.

To be built using monocable fixed grip jig back technology, the ropeway will be capable of transporting up to 7,200 passengers per day. This will significantly reduce the strain on elderly and physically challenged devotees, while also improving crowd management during peak festive seasons.

On average, around 8 lakh pilgrims visit the Ramtek Gad Temple annually. The ropeway is expected to not only provide a more comfortable access route but also boost tourism and local economic activity in the region.

Once operational, the ropeway will add to the growing list of modern infrastructure projects aimed at improving religious and cultural tourism across Maharashtra.
